Old Kempton Distillery is housed in the grand coaching inn, which was built by a convict embezzler turned-innkeeper, William Ellis in 1842.  It was considered one of the finest inns on the road from Hobart to Launceston. The convict brick stables, once home to 22 horses, now houses Old Kempton’s Tasmanian-made copper still. They produce high-quality small-batch spirits, including a variety of Whiskies and Gins that are worth the trip. They also offer some great experiences and have a delicious cafe to boot...

Departing from Hobart, our tours have been designed to let guests experience the best of southern Tasmania’s award-winning craft beverages. Our guides specialise in the craft beverages industry, having been winemakers, whisky producers, bartenders, restaurant owners and researchers we have customised our tours to reflect what we love about the various industries in Tasmania and to show the vast diversities across producers. We have worked closely with whisky and wine producers to gain access to areas that aren’t always available to the public. We offer full day and half day tours every week  and often arrange multi-day tours for private groups. We can organise whisky and wine corporate tours and events and industry training and engagement. Craigie Knowe is the oldest vineyard on the East Coast of Tasmania. Our first vines were planted in 1979, by then Hobart dentist John Austwick. He was such a pioneer of the time, with many local farmers thinking he was crazy, but they quickly realised John was onto something and planted their own vines. A passionate Bordeaux Blend Cabernet fan, John initially planted Cab Sav, Cab Franc, Merlot and Petite Verdot, but Pinot and Riesling soon followed. He made his own wine on site in what is now the Cellar Door, and built a great reputation as an exceptional winemaker.  We are just your average couple who, like most people, love to drink wine and love a challenge… and when we purchased Craigie we definitely got both! The shortened version goes like this (if you would like to know more we’d love to chat in person when you visit). It was during a 3 day break to Piermont on the East Coast that we began exploring what we might “do next”… we’d never been frightened to do different things and found having a common goal kept life interesting! After visiting the cellar doors of Milton and Springvale, we only half seriously said “wouldn’t it be amazing to buy a vineyard”. After a well timed promo email from LJ Hooker and a crazy chat with friends over a bottle of wine, the wheels were set in motion and it wasn’t too long before we were the VERY proud owners of Craigie Knowe. Once purchased we just had to make it work, so it was heads down on a vertical learning curve for some time. Since then, our son has joined us, and having started a viticulture degree he is now the source of so much information; with knowledge comes even better wines.

Expanding into the likes of forestry operations, firefighting and production filming, they became pioneers in the Australian agricultural sector - using trucks with built-in helicopter landing decks. Osborne Aviation has since bought and sold aircraft throughout the world, and launched their tourism brand, Osborne Heli Tours, in 2016.

Akarua has never been in such a strong position as it is today under second generation family leadership of David Skeggs, at the helm of the business, with award winning winemaker Andrew Keenleyside heading the winemaking team. The complete Akarua portfolio now consists of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Pinot Rosé, Riesling and Sparkling Wine. Akarua released their Sparkling Wine range in 2011 under the supervision of renowned sparkling wine specialist ‘Tony Jordan’. Since their release, the Akarua Sparkling Wine range has been awarded numerous trophies and awards in both New Zealand and abroad. To celebrate the next generation of the family management of Akarua, a complete overhaul of the Labeling and packaging of Akarua wines has been instigated by David Skeggs. Sir Clifford, David's father, was adamant that any re-branding work still retain the emblematic Alpine Mountain Daisy, Celmisia Semicordata as a symbol that fragile beauty is still achievable in harsh climates such as those in Central Otago. Historically the local New Zealand market has consumed the major portion of Akarua's production but increasing demand from overseas markets has seen healthy growth. This is complemented by Akarua's on-site Cellar Door, which is now even busier with the growing wine tourism trade that has arisen from the region's international recognition. One of Pinot Noir's more telling features is its transparent nature: any fault or failing in the site, climate, farming or winemaking will be painfully obvious in the final wine and no amount of talent or science can make up for what is already lost. Often it is referred to as a "Winemaker's wine" which reflects the complexity in not only growing and making fine Pinot Noir, but the almost cult-like revere and respect the variety garners from its own instigators. The next decade will see the vines of Akarua reach twenty plus years of age, comparative to increased levels of understanding of the site (or terroir) and of course under the helm of strong family leadership.

Rockburn takes its name from the rugged, rock-strewn, burn-scarred landscape of Central Otago. The region is renowned for its stunning scenery of rugged mountains and picturesque lakes. We produce premium wines of intense varietal characteristics in Central Otago, the world’s most southerly grape-growing region. Central Otago, at 45º south, has a climate similar to Burgundy, France, the great Pinot Noir producing region of the world. All our wines exhibit strong varietal characteristics, highlighted in the white varieties by crisp acids, which are typical of the region. It has also become apparent that like Burgundy there are distinct ‘appellations’ within Central Otago. One has only to taste a Gibbston Valley Pinot Noir to experience its perfumed nose, typically violets, and earthy, forest floor sensations on the palate. Compare this with a Lowburn/Bannockburn Pinot Noir with its darker colour and fuller, sweeter fruit. For this reason, to fully exploit the potential of the region, it is a distinct advantage to have vineyards in different ‘appellations’.

Carrick is one of the most highly regarded producers of fine wine in Central Otago, crafting small production organically-certified, estate-grown wines from its 24 ha Bannockburn site. First planted in 1994, Carrick has the oldest vines on the Cairnmuir Road side of Bannockburn.  THE setting for our Restaurant and Cellardoor is spectacular - overlooking the Bannockburn Inlet, with the Carrick Range in the background, vineyards to the side and a peek at the barrel room below through glass panels in the floor. The idea of providing an opportunity for people to eat good food with our wine appealed and we are open almost every day for lunch and tastings. Nestled under the southern foothills of Marlborough’s Wairau Valley, Clos Henri is the wine estate meticulously established and organically run by the famous Sancerre wine growing family of Henri Bourgeois. In 2000 the family fell in love with the land and wines of Marlborough and in the same year, made the instinctive and emotive decision to purchase a 98 hectare property.  The land at Clos Henri represents a very unique crossroad of three different soil types. It is quite an unusual phenomenon to acquire a piece of land with not one but three unique soil structures, all on one estate. The three kinds of soil are the result of previous geological movements forming the Wither hills on estate’s southern boundary, and the Wairau seismic fault line which runs directly through the estate, resulting in two different soil types lying beside each other on the plain. Clos Henri uses natural methods from the vineyard to the winery, practices dry farming and is a proud member of MANA: Marlborough Natural Winegrowers. Our focus is not simply on providing guests with the opportunity to sample a variety of wines, but on sharing the stories, history, growing techniques, production methods and hints on food matching.  By the end of the day we want our guests not only to have had fun but also to have learned a little more about their own personal tastes and preferences in wine and to have broadened their wine tasting horizons.  Na Clachan’s Marlborough Wine Tour is truly a feast for all the senses.
