Tasting Notes:
This cuvée comes from a 70 ares vineyard composed of scree of flint and upper Turonian limestone. The vines are 112 years old and face the Loire which is a few dozen meters away. The harvest is manual with sorting on the table. Fermentation and aging take place in tapered Stockinger vats.
The color is deep garnet. Mineral and fruity, the bouquet boldly develops scents of cedar, aromas of black fruits and wild strawberries lifted by notes of gunflint and liquorice. The palate is elegant, very supple, with satiny tannins. Both powerful and subtle, the wine envelops the palate with its fleshy texture, its tangy tension and its velvety texture. The finish reveals an incredible mineral purity, the signature of a great terroir!
Green Guide 2022: "The century-old vines of the 2019 Memoirs, as usual, deliver extraordinary power and dazzling depth. A poetic red that is still a little austere at this stage but promises to be kept for a long time."
The Winery:
The vineyard: terroir of limestone and flint, known as the Upper Turonian. 112 year old vines.
Domaine des Roches Neuves is organic in saumur-champigny, Thierry Germain has made a huge change in his estate and in these 22 hectares of vines that he has been working biodynamically since 2002.
He was able to work on the balance between fruit and aging in Cabernet Sauvignon using different containers. For whites, Chenin Blanc is the star. He knew how to give emotion to his wines.
