The beautiful estate of Château Pique-Sègue is made up of hills and valleys that extend to the Dordogne. Entering it is already a sensory odyssey.
The history of the estate goes back more than 700 years, in the heart of the Libourne promontory. The vineyard was already renowned for producing the best Montravel and Bergerac wines. The Archbishop of Bordeaux listed the estate for the first time in the 14th century. This historical anchorage marked the beginning of the vineyard's rise. At the end of the 19th century, Château Pique-Sègue was considered to be "one of the most beautiful estates in the canton" according to the Guide Féret.
If Henri IV stopped at the time of the signing of the Treaty of Fleix to water his horse at the Pique-Sègue spring, today it is the pilgrims of St Jacques-de-Compostelle who cross the road of the vineyard.
Situated between St Emilion and Bergerac, the estate extends over the hillsides of the Libourne region, covering more than 200 hectares, with 70 hectares of vines, as well as a herd of Limousin cattle which works to reproduce HBL animals, with high genetic value.
Among the characteristics of the Montravel terroir is the particularity of the soils, primarily clay-limestone, with areas of flint deposits. The presence of Ponchapt limestone testifies to the high altitude of the terroir, offering natural drainage thanks to the south-facing slopes.
Château Pique-Sègue is also a human, family and warm encounter.
