Shaw + Smith are committed to making exciting and refined cool climate wines, focusing initially on benchmark Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay, and more recently on Shiraz and Pinot Noir. Their Sauvignon Blanc may well be Australia's most loved example.

Shaw + Smith began in 1989 when cousins Martin Shaw and Michael Hill Smith realised a long-held dream to make wine together. In 2000 they planted 35 hectares of Sauvignon Blanc, Shiraz and Pinot Noir on a Balhannah property they had purchased the year before. It was here that they built their winery and tasting room that same year.

Growing the best possible grapes, managing vineyards sustainably, and valuing vine health, soil health, and low yields are central to the Shaw + Smith approach. They are uncompromising in their pursuit of quality, with all grapes hand-picked, fermented, aged and bottled on-site at Balhannah. The wines are vibrant, medium-bodied expressions of their varieties that seek to reflect their site and region.
